Del Cerro & La Mesa · 92120 · 91941 · 91942

The hills east of the city.

Mid-century ranches with canyon views, a lake you can walk around before work, and a small-town village with a trolley stop. Del Cerro and La Mesa share a ridge, a lake and a freeway, and not much else. Here’s how to choose.

What They Share

Same hills, same lake, different city halls.

Lake Murray

The reservoir sits right between them, with a paved path of more than three miles for walking, running and biking, plus fishing and kayaking.

Mission Trails Regional Park

One of the largest urban parks in the country, with Cowles Mountain, the highest point in the city of San Diego, a few minutes from either town.

I-8, the trolley and SR-125

Interstate 8 runs through both. La Mesa adds four trolley stations on the Green and Orange lines, and SR-125 heads south from Grossmont.

One big difference: the city

Del Cerro is the City of San Diego: San Diego Unified schools and city services. La Mesa is its own city with its own police, fire, council and school districts. It shows up in taxes, permits and school assignment, so ask.
